Beside the exclusivity of staying with a Malagasy family, Iaritsena has a lot more to offer for you. First of all, there is the Parc of Anja. This Parc consists of a small tropical forest rich in lemurs and chameleons, stitched against two impressive rock formations. The Parc was founded in 1999 with the help of a Peace Corps volunteer and today it is entirely run by the villagers living on the parc's premises. Visitors can do a small two hour trek or go hiking for as long as two days trough the surrounding rock formations. |

Another natural highlight in Iaritsena is the « Femme couchée », a huge rock overlooking the village. This mountain is mostly popular for paragliding, but the much overlooked Sakaviro sacred forest behind it is also one of the best places in the region to spot different types of lemur and other wildlife. The entrance fee of 4000 Ar will be refunded for those travelers who eat or sleep in the Auberge d'Iaritsena. |
To make your hiking trouble free, we strongly recommend taking a guide. The village has 4 qualified and 6 apprentice guides (assisting the senior guides with large groups), who are always ready to accompany each of your excursions. Beside hiking and trekking, you can also hire bikes, a boat or an ox cart to explore the valley's fascinating nature. For those fond of fishing, there are also traditional fishing lines for hire |
